        "content": "<p>Rinto Subekti, Deputy Chair of Commission XIII of the DPR RI,\nbelieves the planned revision of Law Number 21 of 2007 on the\nEradication of the Criminal Act of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) needs\nto be pushed forward. This regulatory adjustment is needed to respond to\nthe proliferation of modern slavery practices and new modes of human\nexploitation that violate human rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegulatory adjustment is necessary so that the handling of\ntrafficking in persons can run more effectively amid the rise of modern\nslavery practices and human exploitation,\u201d said Rinto in a statement on\nThursday (30\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Beyond revising the TPPO Law, Rinto considers it necessary to adjust\nPresidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 19 of 2023 on the National\nAction Plan for TPPO as well as Presidential Regulation Number 49 of\n2023 on the TPPO Task Force. The politician from the Democratic Party\nstressed that this overhaul of the legal framework must also be\naccompanied by the formal designation of a leading sector by President\nPrabowo Subianto, so that coordination between ministries and agencies\nbecomes clearer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommission XIII of the DPR RI, together with its working partners,\nagrees on the need for the President of the Republic of Indonesia to\ndesignate a leading sector by the technical ministry within the TPPO\nHandling Task Force, given the increasingly massive cases of modern\nslavery,\u201d said Rinto.<\/p>\n<p>Rinto emphasised that strengthening regulation through the revision\nof the TPPO Law must be accompanied by tighter supervision of\ncorporations and labour recruitment agencies. In addition, Rinto\nrecommended that the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) expand\nthe reach of recovery and legal assistance for victims of trafficking,\nboth domestically and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrengthening regulation must be accompanied by enhanced cooperation\nacross ministries, institutions, and even across borders, particularly\nin building the capacity of law enforcement, educating the public, and\nsupervising labour recruitment agencies,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has urged a\nrevision of Law No.\u00a021\/2007 on TPPO due to the prevalence of online scam\nschemes and increasingly complex digitally-based human trafficking.<\/p>",
