The House of Representatives (DPR) held its plenary session to close\nthe third session period of the 2025-2026 parliamentary year. DPR\nSpeaker Puan Maharani, who chaired the session, addressed global\ndynamics including Indonesia\u2019s position on the Board of Peace (BoP)\nrelating to Gaza.<\/p>\n
At the outset of her closing address, Puan stated that the DPR,\nthrough its constitutional functions, had responded to various strategic\nissues ranging from economic management, legal reform, and social\nprotection in health to foreign policy adhering to the principle of\nindependent and active diplomacy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe current global situation is characterised by openness,\ninterconnection, and increasingly intense globalisation. Nations no\nlonger stand alone but are interconnected through economic, social,\npolitical, and cultural networks,\u201d Puan said in her statement on\nThursday (19\/2\/2026).<\/p>\n
The plenary session was held in the DPR plenary chamber at the\nParliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Puan then touched upon the importance of international cooperation.\nShe noted that the international cooperative framework is built upon\nshared norms and commitments, from economic standards and social values\nto the principles of democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this context, development is not merely measured by growth\nfigures but by the quality of human life and the social justice\nexperienced by the people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we live in an interdependent world, Indonesia must\nstrengthen its national resilience and competitiveness to maintain a\nstrong bargaining position in the global order,\u201d Puan continued.<\/p>\n
Puan said that early 2026 had also been marked by rising\ninternational tensions, including armed conflicts and escalating trade\nwars disrupting supply chains and suppressing global economic\ngrowth.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn an interdependent world, no nation can stand and remain safe\nalone; global stability can only be achieved through cooperation.\nTherefore, today\u2019s global dynamics demand more effective diplomacy\noriented towards peaceful solutions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Puan addressed Indonesia\u2019s position in several\ninternational bodies. She noted that Indonesia is a member of the BoP, a\nmultilateral oversight body established on 15 January 2026 to oversee\nthe implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and UN Security Council\nResolution 2803.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government must optimise Indonesia\u2019s strategic position as\nPresident of the UN Human Rights Council and as a member of the Board of\nPeace to make a tangible contribution to resolving the humanitarian\ncrisis in Gaza and to advance the realisation of Palestinian\nindependence,\u201d Puan asserted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia\u2019s leadership in the UN Human Rights Council and its\nparticipation in the Board of Peace must remain grounded in an\nindependent and active foreign policy, upholding the principle of\nsovereign equality,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
Puan said this principle is aligned with the UN Charter and the\nmandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, under which Indonesia\nparticipates in establishing world order based on independence, lasting\npeace, and social justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis principle ensures that Indonesia\u2019s diplomacy is not merely\nsymbolic but stands firmly upon sovereignty, equality, and respect for\ninternational law,\u201d Puan stated.<\/p>\n
Puan also noted that within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy\nduring this session period, the DPR strengthened bilateral relations\nthrough meetings with parliamentary delegations from a number of\nfriendly nations, including South Korea, Japan, Sudan, Kuwait, Iran,\nCuba, Albania, South Africa, Algeria, and the United States.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough its diplomatic function, the DPR plays an active role in\nsupporting Indonesia\u2019s foreign policy, building inter-state trust, and\ninitiating dialogue on various global issues,\u201d Puan explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe DPR is committed to promoting a world order that is more just,\npeaceful, and prosperous for all humanity,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
In the economic sphere, Puan said the DPR would continue to oversee\npolicies strengthening national industrial independence, food and energy\nsecurity, as well as the empowerment of micro, small, and medium\nenterprises (MSMEs) and labour protection.<\/p>\n
In the social and cultural sphere, she said that strengthening the\nquality of education, health, and protection of vulnerable groups\nremained DPR priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the political sphere, commitment to democracy, the rule of law,\nand human rights must continue to be upheld through regulations with\nstrong social legitimacy,\u201d Puan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this clear and measurable agenda, the DPR is not only\nresponding to global dynamics but also ensuring that Indonesia\u2019s\npresence in the global ecosystem becomes an opportunity to strengthen\nnational sovereignty, prosperity, and dignity,\u201d Puan concluded.<\/p>\n
