The organising committee for the 2026 Joint Annual Session of the\nMPR, DPR, and DPD has decided to play only national and regional songs\nso that the session proceeds with solemnity.<\/p>\n
The decision on music is also intended to prevent session\nparticipants from dancing in the chamber when popular songs are played,\nas happened last year. The committee said this year\u2019s arrangements are\nthe result of an evaluation of the impact of the 2025 session.<\/p>\n
During the 2025 annual session, lawmakers\u2019 dancing to popular music\nafter the event triggered public sentiment and a wave of demonstrations\nat the end of August, less than a month later.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have evaluated it, and perhaps we will not do it [play songs that\ninvite dancing],\u201d said Mahyu Darma, Head of the Protocol, Public\nRelations, and Media Bureau of the DPD RI Secretariat General, at the\nparliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (12\/8).<\/p>\n
According to Mahyu, the building decorations have also been prepared\nsimply. His office wants to ensure the event proceeds solemnly and\nrepresents a state occasion.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo that is our evaluation, so that the event is solemn, solemn in\nall its implementation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani also promised that the 2026 MPR annual\nsession will be more solemn. Her office said it has reflected and will\nexercise greater restraint to focus more on following the agenda.<\/p>\n
Even so, she believes the public should be happy and joyful in\nwelcoming Indonesia\u2019s Independence Day, which has reached its 81st\nyear.<\/p>\n
According to Puan, the dancing at the 2025 MPR Annual Session\nhappened spontaneously because of the joyful atmosphere. Nevertheless,\nall participants at that time remained solemn in following the session\nand the President\u2019s speech.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was only when listening to the music after the speech had\nfinished, and that was spontaneous. So there was nothing that made us\nseem disrespectful,\u201d said the PDIP politician.<\/p>\n
Puan explained that an estimated 1,200 participants are expected at\nthe 2026 MPR session.<\/p>\n
Besides the 732 members of the DPR and DPD, the rest are former\npresidents and vice presidents, cabinet members, and VIP guests\nincluding ambassadors from friendly countries.<\/p>\n
In addition, there are eight special guests invited by President\nPrabowo Subianto. They are beneficiaries of the government\u2019s strategic\nprogrammes.<\/p>\n
