Infrastructure issues remain the primary grievance for rural\ncommunities in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi. Several village heads\nand sub-district heads directly conveyed these aspirations during a\nmeeting with DPR RI Commission V member Hamka B Kady at his residence in\nPanakkukang Sub-district, Makassar.<\/p>\n
The meeting took place in a warm and familial atmosphere. The group\ncame from North Polongbangkeng, East Polongbangkeng, and South\nPolongbangkeng sub-districts, arriving at different times.<\/p>\n
Also present at the meeting were the Camat of North Polongbangkeng,\nthe Camat of East Polongbangkeng, the Head of the Public Works and\nPublic Housing Department of Takalar Regency, and the Head of Road\nInfrastructure Development at Takalar\u2019s Public Works Department.<\/p>\n
For the village heads, this meeting was an important opportunity to\ndirectly address the real problems faced by the community, particularly\nregarding infrastructure conditions deemed increasingly concerning.<\/p>\n
Several village roads were reported to be severely damaged. The age\nof the roads and the high intensity of vehicles transporting\nagricultural produce were the main causes of the damage.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it rains, the roads become muddy and slippery. Residents have\ndifficulty transporting their harvest out of the village. There are even\nsome points that are almost impassable,\u201d stated one of the village heads\nduring the meeting, quoted on Saturday, 9 May 2026.<\/p>\n
The damaged road conditions directly impact residents\u2019 economic\nactivities. The distribution of agricultural produce is hindered,\ntransportation costs increase, and community mobility is disrupted,\nespecially during the rainy season.<\/p>\n
In addition to roads, the need for building suspension bridges has\nbecome a serious concern. In several areas, residents still rely on\nmakeshift access to cross rivers.<\/p>\n
When water flow increases, residents must travel longer distances to\naccess educational facilities, healthcare services, or traditional\nmarkets.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the village heads also expressed concerns about\nthe reduction in village funds, reportedly around 64 per cent this\nyear.<\/p>\n
They stated that the remaining budget is only about Rp200 million,\nforcing many development programmes to be postponed.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany programmes are delayed because the village budget capacity is\nvery limited. Meanwhile, community needs continue to increase,\u201d said one\nof the village heads.<\/p>\n
In response, Hamka stated that he understands the conditions faced by\nrural communities in Takalar.
