A member of Indonesia's House of Representatives, Mujakkir Zuhri, has highlighted May Day 2026 as a vital opportunity for synergy between the government and workers, emphasising its role in advancing the welfare state through collective efforts. He praised President Prabowo Subianto's attendance at the event and his promises, including a long-term housing ownership programme for labourers with instalments up to 40 years, aimed at making homes more accessible. Mujakkir also noted the rise in minimum wages over the past decade and expressed hopes for further improvements amid geopolitical challenges, underscoring the contributions of workers to regional development in areas like Tangerang.

Jakarta – A member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of
Representatives (DPR RI), Mujakkir Zuhri, views International Labour Day
or May Day not merely as a ceremony or a national holiday for workers.
He stated that Labour Day represents a living momentum from the drops of
sweat that drive the wheels of civilisation and is laden with meaning.
In Indonesia, this commemoration serves as a crucial moment to examine
how far it becomes a force in stepping forward together to build the
Welfare State. “In truth, nation- and state-building is not done by one
party alone, but by all parties, including workers,” said Mujakkir in a
written statement on Sunday, 3 May 2026. He also appreciated the
Government, in this case President Prabowo Subianto, for embracing and
listening to workers’ aspirations during his leadership. “We should know
that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the May Day 2025
commemoration in 2025 and is reported to attend May Day this year as
well,” he revealed. According to him, the current Government is
strengthening strong synergy to prosper society. “Of course, this
positive synergy needs to be maintained to realise a prosperous
society,” he said. Mujakkir, representing the electoral district of
Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City,
acknowledged that his region has advanced thanks to workers and
harmonious governance. “My electoral district has many factories; all
synergise to develop the area, and I hope workers can become
increasingly prosperous in the years ahead,” he hoped. Looking back ten
years, he continued, the graph of minimum wage (UMR) increases nominally
from around Rp 3.1 million in 2016 to about Rp 5.3 million in 2026 is
hoped to continue improving. “Hopefully, amid the current geopolitical
conditions, there will be a significant increase,” he said. In addition,
Mujakkir appreciated President Prabowo’s speech in front of thousands of
workers at the National Monument (Monas) and his promise of worker
welfare. “This is proof that the president is present for the people,
including workers,” he stated. It is known that at the 2026 May Day
celebration, President Prabowo Subianto once again attended with workers
at the National Monument (Monas). Around 200,000 workers are estimated
to crowd the Monas area. In his speech, President Prabowo Subianto
promised a home ownership programme for workers through a long-term
instalment scheme of up to 40 years. The policy is expected to encourage
more affordable housing access for workers.
",
