Abdullah, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Commission III, has endorsed the recommendation to limit active police officers from holding positions outside the Indonesian National Police (Polri) institution, emphasising the urgent need for revising the Polri Law to provide legal certainty. This revision aims to ensure clear, transparent, and accountable regulations to prevent overlaps in authority and public controversies. The Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform, led by Jimly Asshiddiqie, presented these proposals to President Prabowo, including changes to internal regulations and a presidential instruction to the police chief to implement reforms by 2029, underscoring efforts to enhance the professionalism and independence of the police under direct presidential oversight.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of the House of Representatives’
Commission III, Abdullah, supports the recommendation for limiting
positions outside the Polri institution that can be held by active
police officers.

Therefore, Abdullah assesses that revising the Polri Law is urgently
needed so that the recommendation from the Commission for Accelerating
Polri Reform can be promptly enacted.

“I agree that revising the Police Law is an urgent requirement so
that such regulations have legal certainty,” stated Abdullah on
Wednesday (6/5/2026).

The PKB politician emphasised that stricter and tighter rules
regarding the assignment of active Polri members outside the institution
are necessary to prevent polemics in society.

“The assignment of Polri members outside the institution must be
regulated clearly, transparently, and accountably. So as not to cause
overlapping authorities and violations,” said Abdullah.

Nevertheless, Abdullah affirmed that the House of Representatives’
Commission III supports the recommendation reported by the Commission
for Accelerating Polri Reform to Prabowo.

“That recommendation is the right step in strengthening the
professionalism, accountability, and governance of the police
institution going forward,” said Abdullah.

“This recommendation is already right. From the beginning, I have
consistently voiced that Polri must remain under the President, not
placed under a ministry. That position is important to maintain command
effectiveness, institutional independence, and national security system
stability,” he concluded.

Previously reported, the Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform
proposed revising the Polri Law as part of their work results submitted
to President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday
(5/5/2026).

Chairman of the Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform, Jimly
Asshiddiqie, stated that revising the law is necessary to strengthen
Polri’s institutional reform.

“So, we propose that the Polri Law be revised, which will then be
followed up with a government regulation or presidential regulation,”
said Jimly during a press conference.

In addition to the law revision, the commission also proposed issuing
a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) to Police Chief General Listyo Sigit
Prabowo to implement the internal reform recommendations.

Those recommendations include changes to eight Polri Regulations
(Perpol) and 24 Chief of Police Regulations (Perkap), targeted for
completion by 2029.
",
