Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI), Junico Siahaan, has expressed profound concern\nover the disappearance of five journalists who were covering activities\nat Mount Anak Krakatau, stating that the duties of the press are indeed\nvery heavy.<\/p>\n
As someone who worked for a significant period in the media and\nbroadcasting environment, he explained that the broadcasts and\ninformation received by the public are the result of the labour of many\npeople.<\/p>\n
\u201cBehind every image that reaches the public, there is a crew working,\nfacing risks, and having families waiting for them to return home,\u201d\nJunico said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He hopes that the search operation can proceed smoothly and that all\nmembers of the journalists\u2019 group can be found safely. He also requested\nthat the authorities continue to provide the latest information\nregarding the search process.<\/p>\n
To this end, Junico encouraged the joint SAR (Search and Rescue) team\nand the government to continue optimising the search by integrating all\navailable information, ranging from the last known position,\ncommunication traces, current and weather conditions, to statements from\nfamilies, colleagues, boat operators, and the community around the Sunda\nStrait waters.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery clue regarding their possible location, including requests for\nsearches around Sertung Island, needs to be verified and followed up by\nthe SAR team in accordance with the operational assessment,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he also requested the government to appoint an official\nliaison to assist the families. He reminded that developments in the\nsearch, areas that have been inspected, operational constraints, and\nfuture plans must be communicated to the families regularly using clear\nand empathetic language.<\/p>\n
In a situation such as this, Junico noted that the victims\u2019 families\nneed more than just information updates. They, he said, need assurance\nthat every clue is being examined, every possibility is being pursued,\nand the state continues to work earnestly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe media companies where the journalists work also need to be\ninvolved so that responsibility towards the workers and their families\ncan be fully fulfilled,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Banten Search and Rescue (SAR) Office optimised the\nSAR operation by deploying a Dauphin AS365 N3+ helicopter, registration\nnumber HR-3604, to support the search for five journalists who lost\ncontact in the Sunda Strait waters, Pandeglang Regency, Banten, while\ncovering Mount Anak Krakatau\u2019s activity.<\/p>\n
\u201cHelicopter HR-3604 departed from Atang Sendjaja Air Force Base (ATS)\nat 12:36 WIB and was scheduled to arrive at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta,\nat 12:52 WIB. The flight route includes JIExpo Kemayoran-Carita\nBeach-BPBD Banten-Helipad\/JIExpo Kemayoran,\u201d said the Head of the Banten\nSAR Office, Al Amrad, in Pandeglang on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He explained that the helicopter carried seven people, a move that is\npart of the effort to strengthen the search through aerial support,\nspecifically for monitoring the SAR operational area around the Sunda\nStrait waters and Mount Anak Krakatau.<\/p>\n
The five identified journalists are M. Bagus Khoirunnas from ANTARA,\nAri Basuki from Merdeka, Yudhis from iNews, Daus from Anadolu, and\nDonal, who is a freelance journalist.
