Members of Indonesia's House of Representatives Commission XIII criticised the performance of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) during a hearing with its head, Muhammad Qodari, urging it to go beyond mere public relations and enhance communication effectiveness for better public understanding of government programmes. They emphasised the need for KSP to strengthen monitoring of ministerial implementations, foster closer emotional ties with President Prabowo Subianto, and proactively report on initiatives like MBG and Merah Putih Cooperatives to bridge gaps between government and society. This scrutiny highlights concerns over coordination and transparency in the early stages of the Prabowo administration, potentially influencing how presidential policies are executed and perceived.

Commission XIII of the House of Representatives held a hearing with
the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Muhammad Qodari. During
the meeting, several commission members criticised the role of the KSP
in the Prabowo Subianto administration.

The meeting took place in the Commission XIII meeting room at the
House of Representatives, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). The
meeting was chaired directly by the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII,
Andreas Hugo Pareira.

Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII, Dewi Asmara, offered criticism of
the KSP’s role in the government. She urged the KSP not to merely act as
the president’s public relations arm.

“Regarding the balance between communication functions and substance.
We hope that the KSP does not just become the president’s public
relations, but there must be indicators of the quality of those
publications in terms of public understanding,” said Dewi Asmara.

She also requested that the KSP not only report news but also improve
communication methods so that the public can more easily understand.
“Because we see that it’s actually already good, the reporting is also
good, but perhaps there need to be indicators on how to further improve
it in the future so that the public can more easily digest it,” she
stated.

Member of Commission XIII, Frederik Kalalembang, also highlighted the
KSP’s role in the Prabowo Administration. He said that the KSP’s role is
actually crucial in the Prabowo government.

“If I look at the duties and responsibilities of the KSP, they are
quite significant because they are involved in all ministerial
institutions, so what needs to be strengthened here is the deputy, so
the Deputy must really monitor the implementation in the ministries and
institutions,” said Frederik during the meeting.

Furthermore, he highlighted the relationship between the KSP and
President Prabowo. He assessed that there should be an emotional
closeness with Prabowo since the KSP is the one conveying government
programmes to the public.

“Secondly, of course, there must be an emotional closeness with the
president, because we know how MBG is, how the Merah Putih Cooperative
is, how the current housing is, so this can be explained to the public,
now if the one conveying it is the head of the MBG institution itself
and it’s not really connecting to the public, but it should be the KSP
that conveys it as the eyes and ears of the President,” he said.

He urged the KSP not to remain silent with the current situation
regarding Prabowo’s programmes. He asked the KSP to find ways to report
to Prabowo and explain to the public about the ongoing programmes.

“This must be done properly so as not to just get stuck or stay
silent, because if the KSP stays silent, it won’t be noticed or
considered, but the KSP must really find openings and report to the
President and then report to the public like this is the situation,” he
said.

He also encouraged the KSP to resolve tensions occurring in the
government. “Indeed, the strategy that is presented should not make
things longer or whatever, I think if there is tension, it can be
resolved,” he added.
",
