        "content": "<p>Member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives\n(DPR RI), Firman Soebagyo, has stated that the Free Nutritious Meal\n(MBG) programme is a social initiative with a noble aim to assist the\ncommunity, particularly underprivileged children. Nevertheless, he said\nthe implementation of the MBG programme must be evaluated and kept free\nfrom any potential irregularities. He argued the MBG programme is\nincreasingly important as a form of social protection for the public\namidst economic pressures resulting from global geopolitical and\ngeo-economic turmoil. \u201cIn this critical situation, programmes like MBG\nmust serve as a protective shield for the people. Do not let its good\nintentions be ruined by mismanagement on the ground,\u201d Firman said in a\nstatement on Friday, 19 June 2026. He explained that geopolitical\nconflicts, trade wars, and fluctuations in global food and energy prices\nhave had a direct impact on the community\u2019s economic conditions. Rising\nprices of staple goods and weakening purchasing power are considered to\nbe increasingly burdening low-income groups. Therefore, he supports the\ngovernment\u2019s move to impose a moratorium, evaluation, and investigative\naudit on the implementation of the MBG programme. According to him, this\npolicy is necessary to ensure the programme runs in accordance with its\noriginal objectives. \u201cMBG must return to its original goal, which is\ntargeting the underprivileged, especially in the 3T\nregions\u2014disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas,\u201d he stated. Firman\nalso reminded the government to be open to various inputs developing\nwithin society, including criticism from student groups. Additionally,\nhe requested a comprehensive evaluation of several other programmes\nrelated to the empowerment of village and fishing communities. He\nhighlighted alleged procedural violations in the procurement of goods\nand services as well as budget usage in a number of programmes,\nnecessitating stricter supervision to avoid legal issues in the future.\nOn the other hand, Firman urged the public not to use the MBG programme\nas a political tool or a means to divide society. He called on all\nparties to respect the ongoing legal process. \u201cWe must fully trust law\nenforcement officials to carry out the process thoroughly and\ntransparently. Anyone proven to have misused state funds must be\nprocessed according to the law without discrimination,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>",
