The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II has stated that the\nGovernment is preparing a larger-scale waste management programme for\nregions with waste generation exceeding 500 tonnes per day, intended to\nbe developed into a source of electrical energy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis programme will be provided if a region\u2019s waste generation\nexceeds 500 tonnes per day, including through provincial-level landfills\nsuch as the Banjarbakula landfill in South Kalimantan,\u201d said the\nChairman of Commission II of the DPR, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda,\nduring the handover of the Local Service Delivery Project (LSDP)\nprogramme, worth hundreds of billions of rupiah in waste management\nassistance in Banjarbaru on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He noted that waste management at such a scale will involve\ncollaboration between regional heads, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and\nDanantara, ensuring that large waste volumes can be directed towards\nbecoming a source of electricity and enhancing national energy\nsecurity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the waste volume is above 500 tonnes per day, we will provide a\nprogramme larger than the LSDP waste management assistance,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He confirmed that South Kalimantan would receive such a large-scale\nprogramme if it meets the requirements, and each member of Commission II\nof the DPR can propose districts and cities to receive LSDP programmes\nin the next phase.<\/p>\n
He explained that the currently running LSDP programme is provided to\nregions with waste generation between 100 and 500 tonnes per day, with\naverage funding support exceeding Rp100 billion for each recipient\ndistrict and city.<\/p>\n
He urged the regents and mayors receiving the assistance, including\nthose from South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan, to\nmaintain the integrity of budget usage, as LSDP funds are transferred\ndirectly to provincial, regency, or municipal governments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe central government is not directly involved in the distribution\nof aid funds, as they are transferred directly to local governments; we\nonly supervise and provide guidance,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Consequently, he warned that the hundreds of billions of rupiah\nallocated to each district\/city must not result in audit findings, and\nthat various projects, such as integrated waste treatment sites (TPST)\nand reduce-reuse-recycle waste management sites (TPS 3R), must not be\nleft abandoned.<\/p>\n
