The Chairman of the House of Representatives\u2019 (DPR) Ethics Council\n(MKD), Nazaruddin Dek Gam, has said that Ahmad Sahroni may resume his\nduties as a leader of DPR Commission III, as he has completed serving\nhis sanction. He stated that all processes related to Sahroni\u2019s\nappointment as Deputy Chairman of Commission III were in accordance with\napplicable decisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cAhmad Sahroni was deactivated by the NasDem Party on 31 August\n2025,\u201d said Nazaruddin Dek Gam in a statement on Sunday, 22 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
Sahroni was sanctioned by the MKD on 5 November 2025, receiving a\nsix-month suspension. However, Nazaruddin explained that the MKD\u2019s\nsix-month sanction was calculated from the date of his deactivation by\nthe party. The NasDem Party had deactivated Sahroni since 31 August\n2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe MKD imposed a suspension sanction on Ahmad Sahroni on 5 November\n2025 for six months, calculated from the date of his deactivation by the\nNasDem Party,\u201d Nazaruddin said.<\/p>\n
Based on this ruling, Nazaruddin confirmed that the sanction period\nwould end. \u201cFollowing the MKD\u2019s ruling, Ahmad Sahroni\u2019s sanction will\nexpire on 5 March 2026,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding Sahroni\u2019s reinstatement as a leader of DPR Commission III,\nNazaruddin explained that the decision was proposed by the NasDem Party\non 19 February 2026. He therefore confirmed that the process of\nSahroni\u2019s reinstatement as a Commission III leader was in accordance\nwith the mechanisms set out in the MD3 Law as well as the DPR\u2019s rules\nand standing orders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe appointment of Ahmad Sahroni as a leader of DPR Commission III\non 19 February 2026, as proposed by the NasDem Party, will take effect\nfrom 10 March 2026, as the DPR enters a recess period from 19 February\nto 10 March 2026,\u201d said the National Mandate Party (PAN) politician.<\/p>\n
The Indonesia Parliamentary Center (IPC) has assessed that Sahroni\u2019s\nreinstatement as Deputy Chairman of Commission III potentially violates\nLaw No.\u00a017 of 2014 concerning the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly, House\nof Representatives, Regional Representative Council, and Regional\nPeople\u2019s Representative Councils, known as the MD3 Law. This legislation\ngoverns the structure, functions, authority, and rights of legislative\nbodies in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
This is because Sahroni\u2019s reappointment as leader of the commission\noverseeing legal affairs occurred whilst his status as a deactivated DPR\nmember remained unclear. \u201cThe DPR may argue that this appointment is\nadministrative in nature and does not fully reactivate Sahroni until the\nsanction period ends, but this feels like a weak justification,\u201d said\nIPC researcher Arif Adiputro, when contacted on Thursday, 19 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
Arif explained that under Article 106 of the MD3 Law, a deactivated\nDPR member is prohibited from carrying out duties as a parliamentarian,\nincluding holding a commission leadership position during the\ndeactivation period.<\/p>\n
Arif emphasised that although DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco claimed\nSahroni had been reactivated, by his calculations, Sahroni\u2019s sanction\nperiod should not yet have ended.<\/p>\n
Lucius Karus, a researcher at the Forum for Indonesian Parliamentary\nConcern (Formappi), deemed Ahmad Sahroni\u2019s appointment as Deputy\nChairman of Commission III problematic. He argued that Sahroni\u2019s status\nas a deactivated DPR member should still be in effect if calculated from\nthe date of deactivation by the NasDem Party, as stipulated in the\nEthics Council\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
The MKD\u2019s ruling last November imposed a six-month suspension on\nSahroni, calculated from NasDem\u2019s issuance of the deactivation letter on\n31 August 2025. Meanwhile, Sahroni\u2019s appointment as Deputy Chairman of\nCommission III was decided on 19 February. Lucius noted that\napproximately two weeks of the punishment period remained.<\/p>\n
Lucius also pointed out that Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who chaired the\nplenary session confirming Sahroni\u2019s appointment, did not clarify when\nexactly Sahroni\u2019s six-month punishment would end.
