“DPR Bahas Regulasi Investasi dengan Pengelola Bursa Efek Indonesia”
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sufmi Dasco
Ahmad, visited the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building (BEI) in Jakarta on
Tuesday, 19 May 2026, to discuss strategic steps to attract and retain
global investors in the domestic capital market. This proactive move by
the Parliament followed a sharp 2.32% drop in the Composite Stock Price
Index (IHSG) to 6,567.44 at the close of trading on Monday, 18 May 2026.
During the visit, the DPR held intensive discussions with BEI
management, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and Danantara
regarding market sentiment strengthening. Dasco explained that the
meeting focused on efforts to reassure international investors and to
promote growth of local market participants. “We have discussed
extensively how we can reassure and strengthen international investors
who will enter the exchange and are already on the exchange,” Dasco
said, monitored by Breaking News Kompas TV. In addition to foreign
investors, the dialogue also stressed developing a domestic investor
base based on retail investors. “We also discussed how the existing
retail investors can continue to grow and develop.” The exchange
authorities were reportedly formulating a number of rule refinements to
provide legal certainty for market participants. “Then we listened to
the presentations from the exchange operator on how they can refine the
regulations that can reassure and also make local investors feel
comfortable,” Dasco said. The DPR expressed high optimism that the
ongoing regulatory reform would positively impact the resilience of the
national capital market. “Earlier we saw the growth of local or retail
investors continuing to increase, and with the fundamentals in place, we
believe and trust our exchange will become stronger going forward,”
Dasco said. The implementation target for these policy adjustments is
expected to begin showing effects by the end of May 2026. “Hopefully we
will see results after May 29, when all the hard work and good
intentions will bear fruit.” Appreciation was also extended to the
regulator ranks, deemed quick to dampen market volatility caused by
external and internal pressures. “Thanks to the hard work of the
exchange’s board and the OJK, who in recent days have toiled to face the
situation caused by the global market and domestic dynamics,” Dasco
said. Commenting on the market situation, BEI management explained that
the index decline is the cumulative result of movements in the Asia
regional market. “If we look at the IHSG figures today, first this is
due to uncertainty in our market. But we also note that Thursday and
Friday the Indonesian market is closed, whereas global markets,
particularly Asia, remain open,” said Jeffrey Hendrik, Acting President
Director of BEI, to media including KompasTV journalists at the BEI
Building, Monday. The corrections are still moving in line with the
downward trend experienced by stock exchanges globally in recent days.
“Additionally, with a little more correction today, our correction today
is in line with three days of correction seen in the global market,”
Jeffry said. Kompas TV reported that fluctuations in world crude oil
prices, geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and Russia, and
pressure on the rupiah exchange rate are major factors weighing on the
performance of the domestic capital market currently.”
",
