Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives\n(DPR RI) Commission X, MY Esti Wijayati, has requested that the\nConstitutional Court\u2019s (MK) ruling regarding the budget for the Free\nNutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which states it should not use the\neducation budget, be implemented starting in 2027. Although the MK\nprovided an adjustment period until the 2028 State Budget (APBN), she\nbelieves the ruling should be executed as soon as possible to improve\nthe quality of education in the country. \u201cEvery effort should be made so\nthat it can be implemented starting from the 2027 fiscal year, because\nthere is great hope for the education sector that we can improve and\nenhance the quality of education through human resource development,\u201d\nshe said in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to her, the education budget should be directed towards\nimproving the quality of educators, education personnel, students, and\nuniversity students. Furthermore, the budget should be used to upgrade\neducational facilities and infrastructure to make them more adequate,\nfor the welfare of teachers, lecturers, and education personnel, in an\nequitable and quality manner for all. She assessed that a maximised\neducation budget could also address challenges in the era of\nglobalisation. This is because Indonesia is currently facing major\nchanges such as digital transformation, the development of artificial\nintelligence, the green economy, shifts in employment structures, and\nincreasing global competition.<\/p>\n
In such a situation, she said that education for children is no\nlonger sufficient merely to produce graduates who have completed formal\neducation, but must shape Indonesian people who possess critical\nthinking skills, digital literacy, creativity, the ability to\ncollaborate, strong character, and readiness for lifelong learning. She\nassessed that education reform must shift from an administrative\norientation towards human resource quality development as the main\nstrategy for national development. This, she said, requires a major\ncommitment from the state to ensure that educational programmes are\nalways prioritised. \u201cOf course, building superior human resources must\nstart from children\u2019s education, because education is the basic capital\nfor national development,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Constitutional Court ordered the government and the\nDPR to remove the budget for the Free Nutritious Meals programme from\nthe education budget allocation in the State Budget. The order was\ndelivered in the judicial review ruling of Law Number 17 of 2025\nconcerning the 2026 State Budget, requested under Case Number\n40\/PUU-XXIV\/2026, which was read out in Jakarta on Thursday (30\/7).
