This statement was delivered by Lasarus at the outset of a meeting of\nCommission V of the DPR, the Indonesian House of Representatives, in\nSenayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (21 May 2026). Initially, Lasarus\nquestioned how the incident could have happened.<\/p>\n

He also stressed the importance of the government being honest about\nthe situation. According to him, if there is a lie, everyone lies to the\nvictims.<\/p>\n
\u2018Because this concerns lives, I told the Minister of Transport on the\nphone, \u201cSir, we must disclose this as it truly is, because this is our\nresponsibility to the victims\u201d \u2014 yes, Minister, to those who have died.\nIf we lie now we are lying to those who have already gone and\nexperienced this accident,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
He urged that the issue be disclosed openly. Not to punish, he added,\nbut to find a way out.<\/p>\n
\u2018Let us disclose what happened for improvements going forward. We are\nnot looking for who is at fault, but where the weaknesses lie in the\nsystem we have.
