        "content": "<p>The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)\nhas predicted potential tidal flooding (rob) in coastal areas during the\nEid holiday period. The DPR\u2019s Commission V has requested that the\ngovernment prepare mitigation measures to prevent disasters from\noccurring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisasters are certainly difficult to predict with certainty as to\nwhen and where they will occur, however, for vulnerable points that have\nalready been identified, the government should be able to take\npreventive steps,\u201d said Commission V Chair Lasarus to reporters on\nFriday (13 March 2026).<\/p>\n<p>The PDIP politician stated that preventive measures that can be\nprepared include readiness of facilities and infrastructure, as well as\ndeployment of personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Preventive steps) Include both preparation of facilities and\ninfrastructure as well as personnel readiness in case disasters occur in\nvulnerable points that have already been mapped by the government,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Tidal Flooding Potential in Coastal Areas During Eid<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani reported the potential for\ntidal flooding during the Eid period. Tidal flooding is caused by a new\nmoon and the lunar perigee phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is potential for tidal flooding caused by a new moon on 19\nMarch as well as the lunar perigee phenomenon, where the moon is closest\nto the earth on 22 March,\u201d said Teuku Faisal during a meeting discussing\ninfrastructure and transport service readiness for the 2026 Eid exodus\nwith Commission V DPR in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March).<\/p>\n<p>He stated that tidal flooding has potential to occur in Indonesia\u2019s\ncoastal areas. As a result of this phenomenon, sea levels are expected\nto rise, causing tidal flooding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has the potential to increase maximum sea water levels, so\nthere is potential for tidal flooding in coastal areas across\nIndonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
