        "content": "<p>DPR asked to evaluate Aceh operation<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: The country&apos;s largest Muslim organization, Nadhlatul<br>\nUlama (NU), has called on the House of Representatives to<br>\nevaluate the military operation in Aceh.<\/p>\n<p>Also, noted rights activist Todung Mulya Lubis has urged the<br>\ngovernment to end the military offensive that has left almost 700<br>\nsuspected rebels dead.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of NU&apos;s chapter in East Java, Ali Maschan Moesa,<br>\nsaid the government should focus on humanitarian and law<br>\nenforcement operations in Aceh, and persuade rebels to lay down<br>\ntheir arms and return to their homes.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I suggest the House stop the assault and try persuasion, like<br>\nhumanitarian and welfare operations,&quot; he said during a discussion<br>\non Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government must win the hearts of the Acehnese by<br>\ngiving them &quot;real autonomy, instead of &apos;regional-ruler<br>\nautonomy&apos;&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Todung agreed with Ali, saying the three-month military<br>\noperation in Aceh had gone on &quot;long enough&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The House must evaluate the operation.
