The Special Committee (Pansus) on Papua of the DPD RI has asserted\nthat resolving conflict and humanitarian issues in Papua requires a\ncomprehensive approach. This approach must prioritise the protection of\ncivilians, the resettlement of refugees, law enforcement, the provision\nof basic services, and respect for indigenous communities as essential\ncomponents of state policy.<\/p>\n
These points were raised during a meeting of the DPD RI Papua Special\nCommittee at the Mimika Regent\u2019s Office, Central Papua Province, on\nThursday (17\/09). The meeting is part of a series of working visits by\nthe Committee to gather facts, documents, and community aspirations from\nconflict-affected areas.<\/p>\n
The meeting included various stakeholders, such as the Regent of\nMimika, Johannes Rettob, representatives from the TNI (Indonesian\nNational Armed Forces), representatives from Komnas HAM (National\nCommission on Human Rights), community leaders, refugees from Puncak\nJaya Regency, and the Papua People\u2019s Assembly in Central Papua. The\ndiscussions aimed to address internal conflicts in Papua that have led\nto displacement, security disturbances, and urgent humanitarian\nneeds.<\/p>\n
The Committee is conducting an in-depth study of the conditions\nfacing refugees, victims of violence, disruptions to education and\nhealth, security conditions, and community recovery needs.<\/p>\n
Data from Komnas HAM reveals a serious situation. In the first half\nof 2026, Komnas HAM recorded 42 incidents of violence and armed conflict\nin Papua, resulting in 5_9 deaths and 50 injuries.
