Dozens of 'working girls' netted<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta's Public Order Office and police
\nhave rounded up dozens of girls in raids on five discotheques in
\nJl. Gajah Mada, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Tugiman Supangkat from the Public Order Office said the girls
\nwere detained because they failed to show their identity cards.<\/p>\n
\"The girls who are proven to be prostitutes will be sent to a
\nsocial service institute in Jl. Kebun Jeruk in West Jakarta,\" he
\nsaid on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Friday night's raids started at 10 p.m and lasted four hours.
\nThe five discotheques raided were Malioboro, Lisa Dangdut,
\nWiduri, Duta, and Freedom.<\/p>\n
Malioboro's general manager, Herman, failed to show the
\ndisco's operating permit. The disco is better known as Kings
\nCross.<\/p>\n
An officer of the Public Order Office said the Malioboro
\ndiscotheque had not applied for an operating permit.<\/p>\n
A police captain at the Gambir police sub-precinct said
\nthat no Ecstasy pills or other prohibited drugs were seized in
\nthe raids: \"The discotheque visitors had possibly thrown their
\nEcstasy pills into the toilets before the officers entered the
\nbuilding.\"<\/p>\n
He said the disco's security guards had stopped the officers
\nentering the second floor of the building.<\/p>\n
The first floor of the building is used as an amusement
\ncenter.<\/p>\n
Ecstasy and prostitution raids have been conducted recently by
\ncity council with help from police and military police.<\/p>\n
Some hotels in West Jakarta which provided rooms for \"working
\ngirls\" were also raided over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Some girls were allegedly caught naked with male customers in
\ntheir rooms. They were then taken to the local police station for
\nquestioning.<\/p>\n
The latest Ecstasy raid by the military police was at Poster
\nKafe on Jl. Gatot Subroto last Thursday.<\/p>\n
Police confiscated 52 Ecstasy pills, a gun and three knives
\nduring the raid.<\/p>\n
Capt. Rusli, who led the raid, said they arrested 14 people,
\nincluding nine women and five men.<\/p>\n
Rusli confirmed that the military police will continue to
\nfight crime, including drug abuse. (jun\/25)<\/p>",
