Dorodjatun denies rumor he will quit<\/p>\n

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti
\ndenied on Wednesday rumors which suggested that he had tendered
\nhis resignation to President Megawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n
\"That's not true. It's just a rumor,\" Dorodjatun was quoted as
\nsaying by Antara in Banda Aceh, where he was attending a military
\nceremony.<\/p>\n
Rumors spread in the capital on Tuesday night about an
\nimpending resignation by Dorodjatun amidst speculations that he
\nwas not happy with the progress that the Cabinet was making.<\/p>\n
Other speculation focused on general disillusionment among
\nmembers of his economic team, which was widely dubbed the \"dream
\nteam\" when it was formed by Megawati in August.<\/p>\n
The performance of the economic team led by Dorodjatun came
\nunder close scrutiny during the assessment of Megawati's first
\n100 days in office which fell on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n
Dorodjatun said there was no reason whatsoever for him to
\nresign, considering the current condition of the economy which
\nrequired proper handling on every front.<\/p>\n
He added however, that any normal person would feel
\nintimidated by the massive economic challenge that Indonesia was
\nfacing.<\/p>\n
\"But don't forget, we have achieved a lot these last three
\nmonths in terms of strategic measures to put the economy back on
\nthe recovery track,\" he said, citing as an example the
\ngovernment's decision to renew its contract with the
\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) beyond 2002.<\/p>\n
Antara said that rumors of his resignation began to circulate
\nwhen the coordinating minister chose to fly to Banda Aceh,
\ncapital of Aceh, rather than attend a meeting with the
\nInternational Monetary Fund on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\"I left the meeting (with the IMF) because my presence in Aceh
\nwas also crucial,\" he said.<\/p>",
