Dormitory terrorized by youths<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Twenty residents of a women's dormitory on Jl.
\nSenopati 3, South Jakarta, expressed their concern yesterday over
\nacts of violence allegedly being carried out by young men
\nbelonging to a powerful youth organization, in a bid to expel
\nthem from their abode.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson for the residents told The Jakarta Post that
\nshe had sent a letter to the chief of the Jakarta chapter of the
\nNational Agency for Stability and Security, the Jakarta military
\ncommander and the city police chief to report the terrorization
\nand ask for protection.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson, who asked for anonymity, said that the
\nordeal began on Feb. 4 when some members of the youth
\norganization stopped them from making a new septic tank and from
\nusing their bathroom.<\/p>\n
\"The young men are very rude and hostile to us. They said that
\nthe dormitory had been bought by Mrs. Betty Siahaan,\" she said.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said that on Feb. 8 the young men from the
\nyouth organization came back with a truck and destroyed some of
\nthe dormitory's decorative plants.<\/p>\n
The young men also demolished some of the dormitory's walls,
\nthe spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
On Feb. 11, the young men came back and burned the decorative
\nplants and the debris of the walls they tore down.<\/p>\n
On Feb. 12, they came again to destroy the trees, such as
\njackfruit, star fruit and mango trees. On Feb. 17 and Feb. 21,
\nthey continued their intimidating actions.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson, who said that most of the dormitory
\nresidents have been living there over the last 15 years, also
\ncomplained that the official from the subdistrict administration
\nis not giving any support or protecting them. (mas)<\/p>",
