Don't politicize Garuda<\/p>\n

For quite some time now, Indonesia's flag carrier, Garuda, has
\nbeen without a president director. The hope that Laksamana
\nSukardi, as the state minister for state enterprises, would
\nimprove the professionalism and management of state enterprises
\nhas yet to be realized.<\/p>\n
As a result of the sluggishness of the Office of the State
\nMinister for State Enterprises in naming a new president director
\nfor Garuda, the airline, which over the past three years had
\nbecome more dynamic and responsive to customers, has slowly lost
\nsteam. Garuda employees have lost morale because of the
\nuncertainty in the company's management.<\/p>\n
In this context, the state minister for state enterprises must
\nrealize that a quick fix is necessary to ensure that Garuda can
\ncompete in the highly competitive airline business.<\/p>\n
One thing to remember is that Garuda is obliged to pay US$128
\nmillion in yearly installments on its debts for the next 16
\nyears. If Garuda is not well operated, it will be unable to meet
\nthis obligation because it can no longer rely on the government.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Office of the State Minister for State
\nEnterprises should ensure that Garuda's affairs are not
\npoliticized and that there is no political interference in
\nresolving Garuda's problems, including the appointment of its new
\npresident director.<\/p>\n
Let Garuda continue to fly high carrying the country's flag
\nwithout any political interference.<\/p>\n
