BANYUMAS, Central Java: People with mental problems should
\navoid this town because its mental hospital has been fully booked
\nsince campaigning began two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Hospital director Sutoto said yesterday the 60-room hospital
\nwas so overwhelmed that patients had to wait days for beds to
\nbecome available.<\/p>\n
"People coming for treatment are mostly civil servants,
\nelementary school teachers, college lecturers, students, farmers
\nor traders," he said.<\/p>\n
There have been no surveys on why more people have been
\nseeking treatment at the hospital since campaigning began.<\/p>\n
There has been no survey to find out if the increasing number
\nof people seeking treatment in the hospital has to do with the
\nheating political climate ahead of the May election.<\/p>\n
The United Development Party has accused the government of
\npressuring civil servants to help Golkar win the election.<\/p>\n
Elementary school teachers are struggling after their meager
\nsalaries have been slashed by the government.<\/p>\n
Sutoto said patients were usually admitted to the hospital
