Don't defame Indonesia<\/p>\n
For the time being, we can only hope that some clarification
\nabout the arrest of Indonesians charged with terrorism in the
\nPhilippines will soon be forthcoming. They are accused of
\npossessing items that could be assembled into a bomb. One of the
\nsuspects, Fathurrohan Al Ghozy, allegedly planned to bomb
\nvarious U.S interests.<\/p>\n
We cannot simply deny the claims of the Philippine government
\nconcerning the suspects without first obtaining incontestable
\nevidence. However, the information concerning Tamsil and his two
\nfellow suspects is unclear.<\/p>\n
If they are found guilty, so be it. But if the facts show that
\nthey are innocent and have been caught up in some sort of dark
\ngame being played merely for the sake of a country's prestige,
\nthe Indonesian government must defend them.<\/p>\n
We must be aware of the likelihood that attempts will be made
\nto brand Indonesia as a den of terrorists, and the various
\nschemes that may be resorted to in order to lend legitimacy to
\nthis allegation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, we must remain vigilant and not allow the Republic
\nto be taken hostage by interests that will harm us at the
\ninternational level. We, therefore, should play an active role in
\ncrushing terrorism, which all Muslims condemn.<\/p>\n
Yet, we cannot ignore efforts obviously intended to defame
\nIndonesia, by accusing it of being a willing home to terrorists.
\nThis will paint all of the country's Muslim citizens as potential
\nterrorists who deserve arrest.<\/p>\n
