Don't blame us for terrorism: Malaysia<\/p>\n

Malaysia has rejected being a source of Islamic militancy and
\nstressed that it has helped resolve conflicts involving armed
\nMuslim groups in Southeast Asia, its state-run media said on
\nSunday.<\/p>\n
Kuala Lumpur had mediated to end fighting in the Philippines
\nand Indonesia and stayed clear of any involvement in the unrest
\nin mainly-Muslim southern Thailand, said Deputy Prime Minister
\nNajib Razak.<\/p>\n
\"It's best to study the underlying causes and not be quick to
\nlay blame on others without any concrete evidence,\" Najib was
\nquoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.<\/p>\n
\"We do not see what is happening as having its root in
\nMalaysia.\"<\/p>\n
Malaysian extremists have come into the spotlight recently
\nwith the Indonesian police killing of bombmaker Azahari Husin
\nthis month and a large-scale police hunt for his militant
\ncompatriot, Noordin M. Top.<\/p>\n
The two have been accused of being members of the al-Qaeda
\nlinked Jamaah Islamiyah network and of orchestrating a string of
\nbloody attacks, including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202
\npeople.<\/p>\n
\"It's very unfortunate that Malaysians like Dr. Azahari Husin
\nand Noordin Top played leading roles in the Jamaah Islamiyah
\nterrorist organization in Indonesia, but these are matters beyond
\nour control,\" said Najib.<\/p>\n
Indonesian media reports have recently claimed that
\nsympathizers in Malaysia had funded militants linked to Azahari
\nand Noordin.<\/p>\n
And Thai politicians have in the past blamed Malaysia for the
\ninsurgency in Thailand's south, saying militants were training
\nacross the border.<\/p>\n
Najib said Malaysia was not exporting militancy and had
\nactually mediated in disputes involving Muslim separatists in the
\nsouthern Philippines and in Aceh province in Sumatra, far-western
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
\"The militancy in the southern Phillipines, it is not caused
\nby us,\" said the deputy premier.<\/p>\n
\"We played hosts for negotiations between the Philippine
\ngovernment and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, who were at
\nodds with each other. We also placed our soldiers there for two
\nyears as part of a peacekeeping mission.<\/p>\n
\"Malaysia also helped out in Aceh, where now the warring
\nparties have agreed to peace, and in southern Thailand we never
\ninterfere at all as it is their internal matter,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Najib said Noordin was still believed to be in Indonesia and
\nthat Malaysian authorities would hunt him down if he came home.<\/p>\n
Malaysia's Deputy Internal Security Minister Noh Omar said on
\nSaturday that all known Jamaah Islamiyah suspects in Malaysia
\nwere now behind bars, with 67 detained at the Kamunting detention
\ncamp, the New Straits Times reported.<\/p>",
