US President Donald Trump has announced plans for a state visit to\nChina on 14-15 May 2026. This high-level meeting with President Xi\nJinping will be the first visit by a US president to the Bamboo Curtain\ncountry in nearly a decade.<\/p>\n
The travel plans were previously delayed from the initial schedule of\n31 March due to the escalation of military conflict between the\nUS-Israel and Iran. In a post on the Truth Social platform on Wednesday\n(25\/3\/2026), Trump stated that officials are finalising preparations for\nthe \u201cHistoric Visit\u201d. In addition to his trip to Beijing, Trump is also\nscheduled to host Xi Jinping in Washington DC at the end of this\nyear.<\/p>\n
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the delay\nwas due to the US\u2019s current focus on combat operations in the Middle\nEast. Tensions peaked last month after US and Israeli attacks killed\nIran\u2019s top leader, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran on Gulf\nregions.<\/p>\n
The conflict culminated in Iran\u2019s effective closure of the Strait of\nHormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and natural gas supplies. As a\nresult, a global fuel crisis became inevitable. Trump himself has urged\nUS allies to help lift the strait blockade and threatened to strike\nIran\u2019s energy infrastructure if access to the waterway is not restored\nsoon.<\/p>\n
Regarding the war\u2019s duration, Leavitt provided an optimistic estimate\nthat the conflict might subside by the time of the China visit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have always estimated (the operation) at around four to six\nweeks, so you can do the math yourself,\u201d Leavitt said during a press\nbriefing.<\/p>\n
