Police are continuing to investigate the case of two domestic workers\n(PRTs) who jumped from the fourth floor of a boarding house in Bendungan\nHilir (Benhil), Central Jakarta, resulting in one death. One of the\nvictims had told residents that their mobile phones had been confiscated\nby their employer.<\/p>\n
Resident of RT 005 RW 002, Nani (68), was at the scene after the two\nvictims, identified as D (30) and R (15), jumped. Nani said that the\nvictim with the initials R, who was still able to communicate, had\nconfessed about the whereabouts of their phones.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just asked the other woman, the one who could still be spoken to,\n\u2018Where is your phone so it can be secured?\u2019 She replied, \u2018My phone was\nconfiscated by the female boss on the orders of the male boss,\u2019\u201d said\nNani when met on Saturday (25\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
Nani explained that when found by residents, both victims were lying\non the ground. One was found face down and limp, while the other was on\nher side and could still communicate but only limitedly.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne was just closing her eyes, but if we didn\u2019t ask anything, she\nsuddenly said \u2018It hurts, Ma\u2019am, it hurts.\u2019 Her hand was broken with the\nbone protruding,\u201d revealed Nani.<\/p>\n
There Was a Bag Containing Clothes<\/p>\n
Residents also found several bags containing clothes near the\nlocation where the victims fell. For information, the incident occurred\non Wednesday night (22\/4).<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were clothes in the bags. One backpack, two tote bags full of\nclothes. There was also one more item that seemed like dirty laundry,\u201d\nadded Nani.<\/p>\n
Nani, who had previously been the head of the RT in the area, said\nshe knew and was acquainted with the owner of the four-storey boarding\nhouse. She mentioned that the boarding house owner had only moved to the\nlocation during the pandemic.<\/p>\n
She described the daily life of the boarding house owner as quite\nfriendly but very closed off from community activities. As a result,\ninteractions with neighbours were very minimal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we here, those with adjacent stairs know that people live on the\nfourth floor. But they never communicate, never,\u201d stated Nani.<\/p>\n
Nani recounted that the boarding house owner only interacted\nminimally if they happened to pass each other on the street.\nCommunication usually consisted of just one or two words.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe would greet if we passed each other, but only one sentence or\none word like \u2018Ma\u2019am.\u2019 I would reply \u2018Oh yes\u2019 and that\u2019s it. Then if she\nwanted to enter, \u2018Please, Ma\u2019am,\u2019 I would reply \u2018Yes, please go ahead.\u2019\nThat\u2019s all,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
Nani said she did not know or recognise the domestic assistants\n(ARTs) in that house. Therefore, she was quite shocked by the incident\nof the PRTs jumping from the fourth floor.<\/p>\n
She mentioned that the boarding house owner had never been involved\nin neighbourhood association (RT) activities or community\nsocialisations. \u201cNever, never joins, never (participates in community\nactivities). They are like locked in the house. For Independence Day\nevents, putting up flags, nothing,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n
For information, the incident occurred on Wednesday night (22\/4). The\nPRT with initials D died in the incident.
