With\nfast charging, the vehicle\u2019s battery can be charged in a shorter time\ncompared to normal charging.<\/p>\n<p>However, behind its practicality, concerns have emerged that frequent\nuse of fast charging can accelerate the degradation of electric vehicle\n(EV) batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Mahaendra Gofar, founder of EVSafe, said that the use of fast\ncharging can indeed affect the battery\u2019s lifespan if done\nexcessively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFast charging is practical, but the heat generated is also higher.\nIf it is used too often continuously, it will certainly have an impact\non the battery\u2019s health in the long term,\u201d Gofar told Kompas.com on\nWednesday (13\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, temperature is one of the main factors that affect\nthe degradation of lithium-ion cells. When the battery temperature\nincreases too often, the chemical reactions inside the cells can occur\nmore quickly and gradually decrease the battery capacity.<\/p>\n<p>However, this does not mean that electric car users should avoid fast\ncharging altogether. Modern electric cars are now equipped with a\nbattery management system (BMS) which functions to regulate temperature\nand current distribution during the charging process.<\/p>\n<p>This system helps maintain stable battery conditions even when using\nfast charging. Therefore, the use of fast charging occasionally for\nlong-distance travel is still considered safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe important thing is not to always rely on fast charging every day\nif you can actually use normal charging,\u201d said Gofar.<\/p>\n<p>He added that battery degradation in electric cars actually still\noccurs naturally over time and with the vehicle\u2019s usage cycle.
