The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has activated a 24-hour\nrotating disaster command post as part of efforts to anticipate fires at\nthe Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST) during the dry\nseason.<\/p>\n
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Dudi Gardesi Asikin,\nstated on Wednesday that the assignment of duty personnel was formalised\nthrough a disaster standby duty letter to ensure routine field\nmonitoring, personnel readiness, and the continuous availability of\nmitigation facilities.<\/p>\n
All heavy equipment, including excavators and bulldozers, has also\nbeen confirmed to be in prime condition and on standby around the clock.\nThe machinery is essential for localising affected areas, creating\naccess for handling operations, and assisting in controlling any fires\nthat may break out in the landfill zone.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Integrated Waste Management Unit (UPST) ensures that personnel,\nheavy equipment, and supporting facilities are in a state of readiness.\nIn handling potential fires in the landfill area, the speed of detection\nand the ability to localise the area are crucial to prevent the\nsituation from spreading,\u201d Dudi said.<\/p>\n
He noted that hot and dry weather can increase the potential for fire\nhotspots in waste processing areas, making strengthened prevention,\nsupervision, and emergency response measures essential.<\/p>\n
Regarding water supply readiness, the provincial government has\nensured that water reservoirs, storage ponds, and tanker fleet support\nremain prepared. The Bantargebang TPST currently has hydrant points\nlocated in the Merah Putih Waste-to-Energy Plant (PLTSa) and RDF\nBantargebang areas. Water supply support is continuously being\nreinforced through coordination and additional field preparations.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, supervision of activities within the TPST Bantargebang\narea has been tightened. UPST has prohibited all forms of waste burning\nwithin the landfill and surrounding areas, intensified awareness\ncampaigns for workers and the local community, installed no-smoking\nbanners, enforced a smoking ban for scavengers, drivers, and officers,\nand restricted access for unauthorised external parties.<\/p>\n
To support initial fire suppression if hotspots are detected, the DKI\nJakarta Environment Agency has ensured the readiness of firefighting\nfacilities and infrastructure, including water pumps, hoses, light fire\nextinguishers (APAR), water storage ponds, water tanks, fire engines,\nwater tankers, and spray steam vehicles.<\/p>\n
Periodic spraying and watering of landfill zones are also being\ncarried out as part of risk control measures during the dry season.<\/p>\n
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to coordinate with\nthe DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), the DKI Jakarta\nRegional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the police, local government\nauthorities, and other disaster management agencies. This coordination\nincludes strengthening training, conducting firefighting simulation\nexercises for Bantargebang TPST officers, and reinforcing standby\npersonnel support in the event of an emergency.<\/p>\n
