Hadiah, Jelambar, West Jakarta, protested yesterday an
eviction order which the company handed them despite court
rulings in the residents' favor.

In the eviction order, which was sent by the company to
residents last week, the occupants were advised to accept
compensation of between Rp 7 million and Rp 60 million and vacate
their houses.

The dispute over the properties' rights began in late 1991
when the state-owned company decided to sell the company-owned
houses to non-residents.

The plan was opposed by the occupants, initially comprised of
32 families of high-placed company officials, who had occupied
the houses since 1965.

The families insisted on staying, claiming they had the right
to do so based on a decree issued by the Minister of Finance in
1991. According to the decree, every state-owned company
intending to sell its assets has to have the agreement of its
employees, who must be given priority in the purchase of assets
at 50 percent of the going market price.

The residents' representative G.P.H. Hehuwat told reporters
that the present eviction order was sent a week after the company
agreed to revoke its first order, which was abrogated by the
appellate court.

"The company can refer this case to the High Court. It cannot
just send this kind of order, which is contradictory to the
court's decision," Hehuwat said.

Company officials were not available for comment. (01)
",
