Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Governor of the Special Region of\nYogyakarta, KGPAA Paku Alam X, stated that the Indonesian Walk for Peace\n(IWFP), a spiritual walking tradition undertaken by monks to spread\nmessages of peace, serves as an effort to strengthen religious\nmoderation in daily life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIWFP aligns with the aspirations of the Yogyakarta Special Region\nGovernment in building religious moderation, namely mutual respect and\nhonour among one another,\u201d said Paku Alam X when receiving an audience\nfrom the IWFP 2026 Committee at Gedong Pareanom, Kepatihan Complex,\nYogyakarta, on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to him, IWFP is a tradition that deserves appreciation and\ndeep reflection, with the hope that it can become a space for nurturing\nreligious moderation values within society, while also strengthening\npeaceful interfaith life in DIY.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the beginning, these values have been an integral part of the\nlife of the people of DIY. I welcome the implementation of IWFP\npositively and hope that the spirit of moderation continues to be\nchampioned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He noted that DIY is one of the routes traversed by the monks as a\nstopping point, reflecting DIY as a region that upholds tolerance values\nand is capable of accommodating societal diversity with various beliefs\nand unique characteristics.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Governor stated that although DIY has long been a home to\nreligious diversity, there are still distractions and provocations from\nirresponsible parties that have the potential to divide and hinder the\nrealisation of interfaith harmony.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe presence of the monks in DIY is expected to further foster\npublic awareness of the importance of religious moderation and\nstrengthen commitment to maintaining harmony as fellow citizens,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He added that this long-standing tradition has an extraordinary\nimpact, both in terms of religion and social life of the community, as\nwell as tourism. He hopes that DIY can continue to be one of the\nstopping points for the monks in their journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope this is not just once in DIY; who knows, it could be\nmultiple times, thus becoming a tradition that sufficiently introduces\nDIY both locally and internationally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of the Yogyakarta Regional Office of the Ministry\nof Religious Affairs, Ahmad Bajiej, said that his office will join in\nwelcoming and accompanying the arrival of 51 monks while they are in\nDIY, up to the release of the group in the Muntilan area, Magelang,\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are accompanying the committee, as well as providing\nrecommendations that we are ready to support various events taking place\nhere, whether with the Governor, Deputy Governor, or in accompanying the\ngroup of 51 monks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
