Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that teaching and\nlearning processes and school activities will return to normal starting\nWednesday (9\/9), as the situation following the eruption of Mount Anak\nKrakatau is deemed to have significantly improved.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Jakarta Government had implemented Distance Learning\n(PJJ) due to the impact of volcanic ash dispersal.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding distance learning, schools will return to normal tomorrow.\nI have already requested the Head of the Education Office to immediately\nissue a Circular Letter,\u201d said Pramono after attending the Civil Service\nPolice Unit (Satpol PP) anniversary at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
According to Pramono, one of the reasons schools are returning to\nnormal is that flights to and from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport\ncan now be conducted. \u201cThere are various reasons, one of which is that\nflight operations serve as a parameter; they are now running normally,\u201d\nPramono explained.<\/p>\n
Pramono also revealed that the Jakarta Government has deployed Cessna\nCaravan aircraft for five sorties as part of a weather modification\noperation (OMC). However, he noted that current cloud conditions are\ninsufficient. He expressed hope that there would still be an opportunity\non Tuesday afternoon to conduct OMC to induce rain as a measure to\nmitigate volcanic ash and drought.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully, this afternoon there is still time and space for rain to\nfall. It is not easy; if asked whether rain is due to OMC or God, well,\nit is certainly due to God,\u201d Pramono remarked.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the administration continues these efforts as a\nprecautionary measure. He hopes the OMC efforts will yield results with\nrainfall occurring overnight.<\/p>\n
Previously, Pramono had decided to extend distance learning for\neducational units in Jakarta until Tuesday (8\/9) as an anticipatory\nmeasure against potential exposure to volcanic ash. On Monday (7\/9), the\nJakarta Government had also implemented distance learning. This policy\nwas outlined in the Jakarta Provincial Education Office Circular Letter\nNumber 91\/SE\/2026 regarding Increased Vigilance against Volcanic Ash,\nissued on 5 September 2026.<\/p>\n
In the circular, the Jakarta Education Office noted that volcanic ash\nconsists of very small particles produced during volcanic eruptions,\ncomprising rock fragments, minerals, and other volcanic materials that\ncan be carried by the wind, inhaled, and pose health risks.<\/p>\n
Consequently, the Jakarta Education Office implemented distance\nlearning for early childhood education (PAUD), community learning\ncentres (SKB\/PKBM), special education schools (SLB), as well as public\nand private primary, junior, and senior high schools across Jakarta.<\/p>\n
In addition to implementing distance learning, school heads were\nrequested to provide guidance and monitoring of the learning process and\nto offer alternatives should any obstacles arise.<\/p>\n
