        "content": "<p>Disease affects 500 Nias refugees<\/p>\n<p>NIAS, North Sumatra: Measles and respiratory diseases have<br>\naffected about 500 victims of the recent natural disaster who are<br>\ncurrently accommodated in relief shelters.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors sent from the North Sumatra capital of Medan said on<br>\nMonday that accurate data concerning the health problem was hard<br>\nto find because many of the refugees had left temporary<br>\naccommodation centers set up by the government.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We find it difficult to monitor the latest situation because<br>\nmany of the refugees have checked out of the accommodation,&quot; said<br>\nPoltak Simangunsong, a medical doctor sent in by the Indonesian<br>\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) office in Medan.<\/p>\n<p>Poltak criticized the local government for being too slow in<br>\nrebuilding the damaged facilities; this had also hampered medical<br>\nassistance for victims living in outlying areas.<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 people were killed in floods and landslides that<br>\nswept through the island in the Indian Ocean.
