Discussion on Islamic culture<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Istiqlal Foundation will present both
\nspeeches and a panel discussion on museums and Islamic culture at
\nthe Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications on Saturday,
\nApril 12.<\/p>\n
The discussion, to be opened by Minister of Religious Affairs
\nTarmizi Taher, will be held in conjunction with the opening of
\nBayt Al-Quran and Istiqlal Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
\nin East Jakarta on April 20.<\/p>\n
Taufik Abdullah, a professor of history at the National
\nInstitute of Sciences, will also speak.<\/p>\n
In addition, speakers will include Ibrahim Alfian, and Hasan
\nMuarif Ambary, a professor of archaeology, who will discuss the
\narchaeological aspects of writing history.<\/p>\n
During the second session, speakers Abdul Hadi and Jalaludin
\nRakhmat will discuss the role of the Koran in cultural
\ndevelopment.
\n The last session will feature Edi Sedyawati, director general
\nof cultural affairs at the Ministry of Education and Culture, and
\nHaswidi A. Taufik. Both speakers will discuss the role of Islamic
