        "content": "<p>Mardani Ali Sera, a member of Commission II of the Indonesian House\nof Representatives (DPR RI) from the PKS Faction, revealed that\ndiscussions regarding the revision of the Election Law are targeted to\ntake place from July to August 2026, with ratification expected by the\nend of that year.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mardani, Commission II is currently refining various\nsubstantive elements of the revision. He noted that the initial draft of\nthe Election Law revision has already reached approximately 300 pages.\n\u201cThe target is for formal discussions in the Working Committee to occur\nfrom July to August 2026. The goal is to pass the new Election Law by\nthe end of 2026,\u201d Mardani stated in a briefing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that Commission II has conducted four to five rounds of\nmeetings with various stakeholders to gather input for the revision.\nStakeholders including election organisers, academics, and political\nparties have been involved in the drafting process. \u201cWe in Commission II\nhave held intensive meetings, four or five times already. We have\ninvited almost all parties to provide their views, resulting in a\nfour-column draft compilation that has reached 300 pages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Mardani stated that the draft revision incorporates four\nmain approaches: existing norms, derivative norms from Constitutional\nCourt (MK) rulings, expert proposals, and input from political parties.\n\u201cThe Election Law Bill is already 300 pages. It contains existing norms,\ncompiled perspectives from experts, and discusses the implications of MK\nrulings,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Several strategic issues are the focus of the revision, including the\npresidential threshold, the parliamentary threshold, and the design for\nthe synchronisation of national and local elections. \u201cIf the pattern\nrepeats, we go straight to the three MK rulings that change the design.\nStarting with the presidential threshold\u2014this is extraordinary; the 20\nper cent requirement is being removed. Then there is the parliamentary\nthreshold, and also the issue of national and local election\nsynchronisation,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
