        "content": "<p>Discrimination in workplace must be ended<\/p>\n<p>SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Dozens of disabled persons in East<br>\nKalimantan staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the government<br>\nto end discrimination against them in the work place.<\/p>\n<p>During the protest, which coincided with the Disabled Persons<br>\nInternational Day, they also demanded the local government to<br>\nimplement central government regulations to punish the companies<br>\nthat barred them from entering private and government-owned<br>\nfirms.<\/p>\n<p>In the protest, held in front of East Kalimantan&apos;s Social<br>\nAffairs agency office, the protesters lashed out at the local<br>\ngovernment for failing to implement regulations, which<br>\nspecifically ruled that the companies must not discriminate<br>\nagainst disabled persons. They also demanded a specific bylaw,<br>\nwherein the local government would have to ensure employment for<br>\ndisabled persons.<\/p>\n<p>They said that they &quot;are given attention by the government,<br>\nonly when there is a social project in the Social Office.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Syafrudin, the deputy chairman of East Kalimantan<br>\nSocial Affairs agency, said that the local government could not<br>\nproduce a bylaw that ensured employment for disabled persons.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The issues have been adequately covered by the central<br>\ngovernment regulations,&quot; he said.
