The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police\n(Polri) released updates on the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus,\nDeputy Coordinator of KontraS, almost simultaneously on Wednesday\nafternoon (18\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
However, the two institutions presented differing versions regarding\nthe number and initials of the suspected perpetrators.<\/p>\n
TNI Version: Four BAIS Soldiers Become Suspects<\/strong><\/p>\n The TNI\u2019s Pushom revealed that four BAIS TNI soldiers are suspected\nperpetrators. The four suspects are initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.<\/p>\n TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police Major General Yusri\nNuryanto stated that all four suspects are members of the BAIS TNI\nMilitary Police Unit, from the naval (AL) and air force (AU)\nbranches.<\/p>\n \u201cWe convey that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the\nBAIS TNI Military Police Unit, not from any other unit but from the BAIS\nTNI Military Police Unit,\u201d said Maj Gen Yusri during a press conference\nat TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n When asked further, Yusri specified that the four suspects are from\nthe AL and AU branches. \u201cFrom AL and AU,\u201d he added in response to the\nquestion.<\/p>\n Furthermore, Yusri stated that three of the four suspects hold\nofficer ranks. The highest, he continued, is at the rank of captain.<\/p>\n \u201cSo Captain NDB, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant\nES. During the investigation, we will work as thoroughly as possible\nwith the hope that we can carry it out as quickly as possible in a\nprofessional manner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He mentioned that the suspects are currently secured. They are also\nstill being intensively questioned by Pushom TNI.<\/p>\n Police Version: Two Executors, Perpetrators Could Be More\nThan Four<\/strong><\/p>\n On the other hand, the Metro Jaya Regional Police announced two\nperpetrators who acted as executors in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.\nThe two are initialled BHC and MAK.<\/p>\n However, the police suspect that the number of involved perpetrators\ncould exceed four people.<\/p>\n \u201cCurrently, we suspect that we can inform that the two people we\nshowed earlier from this Polri data\u2014one initialled BHC, two initialled\nMAK. However, from our investigation results, we do not rule out the\npossibility that the perpetrators could be suspected to be more than\nfour,\u201d said Director of Criminal Investigation for Metro Jaya Regional\nPolice Commissioner Iman Imannudin at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters,\nJakarta, on Wednesday (18\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n Kompolnas: Disclosures Must Be Based on Objective\nEvidence<\/strong><\/p>\n Kompolnas responded to the differences in findings between TNI and\nPolri. Kompolnas Commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam, or Cak Anam,\nemphasised that identifying perpetrators must be based on objective\nevidence, one of which is CCTV recordings.<\/p>\n \u201cSo the most important thing in this incident is that it is based on\nsomething that can be seen and measured objectively. One of them is,\nyes, CCTV,\u201d said Cak Anam when asked about the differing initials of\nperpetrators revealed by Polri and TNI.<\/p>\n According to him, the identification of suspected perpetrators has\nbeen based on measurable evidence that can be scientifically tested.
