Dwi Rio Sambodo, a member of Commission B of the Jakarta DPRD from\nthe PDI-P faction, supports the proposal to implement Car Free Day (CFD)\nfor two days a week in Jakarta. However, Rio has cautioned the Jakarta\nProvincial Government to prepare for such a move meticulously.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am encouraging the Jakarta Provincial Government and the\nDepartment of Transportation to evaluate CFD by actively involving road\nusers, business owners, affected residents, and CFD participants.\nStudies should not rely solely on technical traffic calculations, as the\nreal-world experiences of those using the affected roads and those\nparticipating in CFD must be the primary consideration in every policy,\u201d\nRio stated when contacted on Monday (14\/9\/2<0xA0>2026).<\/p>\n
Rio noted that traffic engineering must be designed to be flexible\nand adaptive. He suggested examples such as phased traffic diversions,\nthe optimisation of traffic lights, and temporary one-way systems at\nspecific points.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis scheme must be socialised well in advance so that the public\nand business owners can adjust their activities, ensuring that CFD can\nrun smoothly without causing prolonged conflict with other road users,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is necessary to form an integrated team involving the Department\nof Transportation, the police, and community elements to conduct direct\nmonitoring while CFD is underway. Evaluations must be based on field\ndata, ranging from vehicle density levels, travel time, and the\neffectiveness of alternative routes, to the comfort of CFD participants\nand economic activities in the surrounding areas,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Rio stated that implementing CFD two days a week provides space for\ncitizens to exercise and interact socially in a safe and healthy manner.\nHe will request the Jakarta Provincial Government to prepare for this\nthoroughly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe benefits of (CFD twice a week) for public health and the\nreduction of air pollution cannot be ignored simply due to technical\ntraffic issues, which can actually be managed. Furthermore, there are\nmany positive impacts across various sectors, such as social interaction\nspaces, MSMEs, the environment, education, culture, and more,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung previously responded to a proposal\nfrom the Minister of Environment, Jumhur Hidayat, to hold CFD in Jakarta\ntwice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays, to tackle air pollution. Pramono\nmentioned that the proposal is currently being reviewed internally by\nthe Jakarta Provincial Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirstly, I have read the proposal and it is actually quite rational.\nTherefore, we have conducted discussions within City Hall. We will make\na decision when the time comes,\u201d Pramono said in the Cempaka Putih area,\nCentral Jakarta, on Friday (11\/9).<\/p>\n
Pramono noted that the implementation of CFD in Jakarta is not\nlimited to the Sudirman-Thamrin area. According to him, several\nadministrative cities in Jakarta already have spaces to hold CFD.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause in Jakarta, car free day is not only in Sudirman-Thamrin and\nRasuna Said.
