One of the biggest traffic trouble spots in Jakarta is the UKI
\nintersection in Cawang, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
For many years, bus passengers have hopped on and off
\nintercity buses at this intersection, thus causing immense
\ntraffic snarls. Bus drivers preferred to circumvent the jammed
\nKampung Rambutan bus terminal and the intersection was convenient
\nfor both the drivers and the passengers, but a headache for other
\ndrivers.<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, one priority of the National Discipline
\nMovement is tackling the inherent problem of the UKI
\nintersection. Bus operators and bus passengers are evidently not
\nhappy because to go through Kampung Rambutan means lost time.<\/p>\n
I appreciate the efforts of the officials involved in
\nenforcing discipline among road users. It may take one year of
\nsustained enforcement to stop the bedlam. Discipline collapses
\nwhen the police are no longer on the road.<\/p>\n
It is the task of the public transportation authorities to
\nensure the road to Kampung Rambutan terminal is reasonably free
\nof congestion so intercity buses coming from the Cikampek-Jakarta
\ntoll road can easily enter the terminal without passing through
\nthe UKI intersection.<\/p>\n
