Jakarta (ANTARA) - A disaster survivor in Hutanabolon, Tukka\nDistrict, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, Melur\nTambunan, has warmly welcomed the provision of an emergency mosque from\nthe National Zakat Agency (Baznas) ahead of Ramadan.<\/p>\n
Melur Tambunan (38) could not conceal her gratitude upon seeing the\nsemi-permanent emergency mosque structure at her place of residence,\nafter months of only being able to prostrate in prayer in the cramped\nconfines of evacuation tents.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of the Muslims living in this temporary shelter, I express\nmy deepest thanks to the Baznas team for erecting an emergency mosque\nfor us,\u201d said Melur in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Melur recounted that since flash floods struck her settlement in\nNovember 2025, she and dozens of other residents had been forced to\nsurvive in emergency tents that were far from adequate.<\/p>\n
These conditions made daily activities, including worship, an immense\nchallenge for the displaced residents. In one small tent, eight\nhouseholds comprising 30 people were living in severely overcrowded\nconditions.<\/p>\n
She explained that prayer times were frequently missed because there\nwas simply no empty space to lay out a prayer mat.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes we would prepare to pray but, given the circumstances, it\nwouldn\u2019t happen. There are so many people in one tent \u2014 sometimes we\u2019ve\nalready performed ablution, but our neighbours are lying down resting.\nIt wouldn\u2019t be right to ask them to move, since the tent is the only\nshelter available, there\u2019s nowhere else. So we just show understanding\nand say we\u2019ll pray later. In the end, we often miss the prayer time,\u201d\nMelur explained.<\/p>\n
Melur said it was this pressing situation that drove residents to\ncoordinate with Baznas, particularly with the holy month of Ramadan\ndrawing near.<\/p>\n
In response to these appeals, the Baznas team moved swiftly to\nconstruct an emergency mosque facility. The building was designed with a\nsemi-permanent concept so that it could be easily assembled and\ndisassembled whilst remaining sturdy for use.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought that when fasting begins, we want our worship to be\nfocused and devoted. Then the Baznas team said they would make it\nhappen. And now it\u2019s already built. Praise be to God, everyone\nsheltering here is grateful that there is now an emergency mosque,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
