JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen\nPas) has stated that Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the National\nPolice\u2019s Professional and Security Division now serving as an inmate, is\npursuing a Master\u2019s (S2) programme in Theology through a scholarship\nprovided by Sekolah Tinggi Global Glow Indonesia (STGGI).<\/p>\n
Rika Aprianti, Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate at\nDitjen Pas, explained that among the Christian inmates at Cibinong Class\nIIA Prison, Ferdy Sambo expressed interest in the scholarship.<\/p>\n
\u201cCibinong Prison has developed cooperation with Sekolah Tinggi Global\nGlow Indonesia (STGGI) to provide S1 and S2 Theology scholarship\nprogrammes for Christian inmates, one of whom is interested in the\nprogramme, Ferdy Sambo,\u201d said Rika when contacted by reporters on\nWednesday (13\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
Rika added that the classes are conducted online from within Cibinong\nPrison.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis programme is part of efforts to guide and improve the human\nresource quality of inmates so they are ready to return and contribute\npositively to society,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
Rika noted that Article 9 letter C of Law No.\u00a022 of 2022 on\nCorrections stipulates that all inmates have the right to education.<\/p>\n
She further mentioned that currently, all inmates at Cibinong Prison\nhave the opportunity to continue formal education.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen Pas)\nstated that all inmates have the right to receive and continue\neducation, not just Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the National\nPolice\u2019s Professional and Security Division now serving as an\ninmate.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by the Director General of Pas in response to\nsocial media reports about Ferdy Sambo pursuing a Master\u2019s (S2)\neducation at Cibinong Class IIA Prison in West Java.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe right to receive or continue education is protected by law as\npart of inmates\u2019 rights to education or to continue their studies. This\nis not only related to Ferdy Sambo,\u201d said Rika when contacted by\nKompas.com on Tuesday (12\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
Rika explained that several inmates are also continuing their\neducation while in prison.<\/p>\n
\u201cUp to now, it is still ongoing; at Tangerang Youth Prison, since the\n2020s, there have been inmates continuing S1 education, with a campus\ninside the prison,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, social media reports circulated claiming that Ferdy Sambo,\nthe former Head of the National Police\u2019s Professional and Security\nDivision now serving as an inmate, is participating in a theology\neducation programme and registered as a Master\u2019s (S2) student at Sekolah\nTinggi Teologi Global Glow Indonesia (STTIGGI).<\/p>\n
The social media post also showed a photo of Ferdy Sambo and several\nother inmates wearing green uniforms with officers and some people in\nformal attire.<\/p>\n
