Director arrested for power theft<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: The police arrested the director of Cikokol
\nmain vegetable market, H. Memet, and one of his staff members,
\nKinong, on Thursday for allegedly organizing the theft of
\nelectricity for hundreds of vegetable vendors at the market.<\/p>\n
Police said the two were arrested following a raid conducted
\njointly with the state electricity company (PLN), which found
\nthat the electricity relay station that supplied 36,000 volts to
\nthe market had been tampered with.<\/p>\n
PLN also cut the supply of the power to the market, which
\nresulted in complaints from some 500 vendors who sell their
\nvegetables at night.<\/p>\n
PLN is engaged in an ongoing operation against power theft in
\nan effort to stamp out the crime, which inflicts huge financial

Two Nigerians on trial for drug<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Two Nigerians were sent to the Tangerang District
\nCourt on Thursday for allegedly trafficking 5.6 kilograms of
\nheroin.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Permadi, however, postponed the hearing for a
\nweek to give the defendants, Michael Titus Igweh, 23, and Hillary
\nK. Chimezia, 24, a chance to find a lawyer.<\/p>\n
The two defendants, along with Zimbabwean Nkomo Kholisani
\nalias Ichuku Eberu Okolwaja, 33, were tried separately at the
\nsame court in January.<\/p>\n
But Permadi, who also presided over the sessions, freed them
\nbecause the prosecutors' indictment was considered inaccurate.<\/p>\n
The police rearrested them for re-investigation as soon as
\nthey left the correctional institute in February, where they were
\nheld during their trial. Defendant Nkomo Kholisani reportedly
\ndied at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta due to
\nAIDS.<\/p>\n
The defendants were first arrested in August 2002 after the
\npolice nabbed Nkomo's girlfriend Marlena, 24, an Indonesian, on
\nAug. 17, 2002 in a raid at her house, where the police found 50
\ngrams of heroin in her bag.<\/p>\n
Marlena died in December at the police hospital. The police
\nsaid she suffered from lung disease. --JP<\/p>",
