        "content": "<p>Direct gubernatorial election sought<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' plenary session<br>\napproved on Monday the House's initiative bill revising Law No.<br>\n34\/1999 on Jakarta administration, including the application of a<br>\ndirect gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Manase Malo<br>\nsaid his faction viewed the direct election as the people's will,<br>\nAntara reported.<\/p>\n<p>Manase said that the direct election was in line with the<br>\ncurrent amendment to the State Constitution on direct<br>\npresidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>However, some factions, including the Indonesian Military<br>\n(TNI)\/Police faction, agreed but questioned the bill, which<br>\nstated the direct gubernatorial election should be conducted at<br>\nleast in May of next year.<\/p>\n<p>\"It could become a new problem as the governor for the period<br>\nof 2000-2007 has been elected,\" the faction's spokesman Kohirin<br>\nSuganda Saputra said.--JP<\/p>",
