Diponegoro gets new chief<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: Army chief of staff Gen. R. Hartono yesterday
\ninstalled Maj. Gen. Yusuf Kartanegara as the new chief of the
\nDiponegoro Military Command which oversees security in Central
\nJava and Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
Yusuf, who was formerly Chief of Staff of the Jakarta
\nGarrison, replaced Lt. Gen. Soeyono, who was last month promoted
\nto become chief of the Armed Forces' General Affairs.<\/p>\n
The Diponegoro post is considered one of the most prestigious
\nin the Army and one which in the past has helped launch many
\nofficers into higher positions in the military and the
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
With the completion of the transfer of duty, Soeyono will no
\nlonger have to shuttle between Jakarta and Semarang as he has
\nbeen doing over the past month due to holding two jobs at the
\nsame time.<\/p>\n
The ceremony yesterday was also used to mark the command's
\n45th anniversary which fell on March 1.<\/p>\n
Among those attending the ceremony included Lt. Gen. (ret.)
\nSoegiarto, Lt. Gen, (ret.) Harsudiyono Hartas and Lt. Gen. (ret.)
