        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Founder of the Foreign Policy Community of\nIndonesia (FPCI) Dino Patti Djalal has expressed appreciation for\nForeign Minister Sugiono\u2019s statement that Indonesia will not impose\ntariffs in the Malacca Strait. \u201cI appreciate Foreign Minister Sugiono\u2019s\nstatement rejecting the discourse on collecting taxes from ships passing\nthrough the Malacca Strait,\u201d Dino said in a post on social media\nplatform X on Friday. According to him, if such tariffs were\nimplemented, the impact would be very detrimental to Indonesia\u2019s\ninternational image and credibility as the pioneer and architect of the\nUN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Furthermore, he said, it\ncould potentially damage the atmosphere of the upcoming ASEAN Summit in\nCebu, Philippines, in May, which will be attended by President Prabowo\nSubianto. This is because the imposition of fees that violate\ninternational law would certainly be protested by neighbouring countries\nand the international community, and it would shake the currently\nfragile global economy. \u201cRemember that we are highly dependent on the\nlaw of the sea convention, as an instrument of international law that\nguarantees the validity of the archipelagic outlook concept of the\nUnitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), where Indonesia\nfinally has full sovereignty over the seas between the archipelago that\nwere previously international free seas,\u201d he said.
