Dilapidated bridge<\/p>\n

There are two bridges in front of the traditional market in
\nJatinegara. One of them spans the Matraman Raya Road in front of
\nthe Merdeka elementary and junior high schools.<\/p>\n
Some days ago, I saw a housewife step through a rustworn step
\nwhen descending one of the bridges. The woman stepped through a
\nwooden plank which covered the hole in the iron step. She needed
\nhelp to get out of the snare.<\/p>\n
The woman had scratches all over her foot and she hopped with
\ngreat difficulty towards a mini van.<\/p>\n
Several steps of the bridge are worn-out by rust and are
\nriddled with holes. Some of the holes are only covered with
\nwooden planks, secured in place with rafia.<\/p>\n
A vendor doing business underneath the stairs said that a
\nsimilar incident had occurred before the housewife's accident.<\/p>\n
Before more serious accidents happen, we hope that the Jakarta
\nAdministration will pay more attention to the condition of the
\nbridge since pedestrians using the bridge are at risk.<\/p>\n
