Did Prabowo\u2019s Overseas Trips Really Secure Rp2,430tn in\nInvestment?<\/p>\n

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta \u2013 Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has defended\nPresident Prabowo Subianto\u2019s frequent overseas trips, arguing that the\nvisits have helped attract trillions of rupiah in investment to\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
However, a review of official investment data shows that the figure\ncited by Teddy includes both foreign and domestic investment.<\/p>\n
Responding to public criticism of Prabowo\u2019s international travel\nduring his first 1.5 years in office, Teddy said the visits had\ngenerated significant economic benefits.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe total investment realized during this 1.5-year period is around\nRp2,430 trillion, based on data from the Investment Coordinating Board\n(BKPM),\u201d Teddy said in a video statement on Monday, June 1, 2026.<\/p>\n
As an example, he pointed to Prabowo\u2019s visits to Japan and South\nKorea in late March 2026, which he said resulted in investment\ncommitments worth approximately Rp575 trillion.<\/p>\n
Does the Data Back Teddy\u2019s Rp2,430 Trillion Investment Claim?<\/p>\n
A review of data released by the Ministry of Investment and\nDownstream Industry\/BKPM, however, shows that the Rp2,430 trillion\nfigure refers to the combined value of foreign direct investment (FDI)\nand domestic investment realized between the first quarter of 2025 and\nthe first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n
During that period, domestic investment (PMDN) reached Rp1,279.1\ntrillion, while foreign direct investment (PMA) totaled Rp1,150.9\ntrillion. Together, they amounted to Rp2,430 trillion, with domestic\ninvestment accounting for 52.64 percent of the total and foreign\ninvestment 47.36 percent.<\/p>\n

The BKPM data cited by Teddy therefore do not indicate that Rp2,430\ntrillion came solely from foreign investors. Rather, the figure\nrepresents the combined realization of both domestic and foreign\ninvestment over the five-quarter period.<\/p>\n
Prabowo was inaugurated as Indonesia\u2019s president on October 20, 2024.\nBased on BKPM data, total investment realization from the fourth quarter\nof 2024 through the first quarter of 2026 reached Rp2,882.8\ntrillion.<\/p>\n
Of that amount, foreign direct investment accounted for Rp1,396.7\ntrillion, while domestic investment totaled Rp1,486.1 trillion. Foreign\ninvestment represented 48.45 percent of the total, compared with 51.55\npercent for domestic investment.<\/p>\n
This means the total value of foreign investment realized since\nPrabowo took office was Rp1,396.7 trillion, significantly lower than the\nRp2,430 trillion figure cited by Teddy, which includes both foreign and\ndomestic investment.<\/p>\n
