Diarrhoea cases in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), are\nsurging. The spread of diarrhoea is occurring in Labuan Bajo and other\nareas at the western tip of Flores Island.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy child has had diarrhoea for four days. Initially, it was my\nchild\u2019s playmates who were affected. Now, there are many cases of\ndiarrhoea,\u201d said Ririn, the mother of one of the children affected by\ndiarrhoea in Labuan Bajo, on Thursday (3\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Ririn stated that children in her neighbourhood have been suffering\nfrom diarrhoea for almost the past two weeks. Symptoms include abdominal\npain, vomiting, fever, and lethargy.<\/p>\n
The woman had taken her child to the hospital for outpatient\ntreatment. At the hospital, she discovered that many other children were\nalso being treated for diarrhoea.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out there are many children being hospitalised due to\ndiarrhoea. There are also those from villages being referred with\ndiarrhoea symptoms,\u201d Ririn added.<\/p>\n
The Head of the West Manggarai Health Office, Theresia P. Asmon,\nstated that diarrhoea cases had emerged even before the earthquake\ndisaster. However, the number of cases surged drastically during the\npost-earthquake emergency response period since mid-August.<\/p>\n
Known affectionately as Ney, she revealed that diarrhoea cases are\naffecting not only children but adults as well. A total of 493 diarrhoea\ncases have been recorded across various health facilities in West\nManggarai. The highest number of cases was recorded at the Wae Nakeng\nCommunity Health Centre in Lembor District.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is the accumulation of reports from all community health\ncentres. There was a tendency for diarrhoea to rise before the\nearthquake, and it increased further after the earthquake,\u201d Ney\nexplained.<\/p>\n
The increase in diarrhoea cases in Labuan Bajo only began in week 34,\nor late August.
