Indonesia faces a rising burden of Type 2 diabetes, with experts calling for interventions that are both practical and scientifically validated. A clinical trial of the fibre drink Metafiber by mGanik Nutrition suggests pre-meal fibre reduces postprandial blood sugar spikes, with validation from an Indonesian university, highlighting a data-driven path for diabetes care.

The rising number of people with Type 2 diabetes in Indonesia is seen
as necessitating a treatment approach that is not only practical but
also measurable and scientifically validated. Dr. Kelvin Candiago,
founder of the mGanik health ecosystem, regards controlling postprandial
blood sugar spikes as one of the challenges frequently faced by people
with diabetes. ‘Diabetes is a real health crisis in Indonesia.
Therefore, a solution that is measurable, validated, and can be felt
directly by people with diabetes is needed, especially to prevent
post-meal blood sugar spikes,’ said Kelvin in a statement on Friday
(22/5/2026).

Over the past decade, the number of diabetes cases in Indonesia has
continued to rise. Most cases are Type 2 diabetes linked to dysfunction
in glucose regulation. One of the issues often faced by people with Type
2 diabetes is postprandial blood sugar spikes, or an elevation in blood
sugar two hours after eating. This condition is considered to complicate
blood sugar control if not addressed properly.

To address this issue, mGanik Nutrition conducted a clinical trial of
the fibre drink product mGanik Metafiber to study the effect of fibre
consumption on postprandial blood sugar spikes. The clinical trial
involved 30 people with Type 2 diabetes and used a crossover design. In
the study, participants underwent two different conditions: eating
without fibre product consumption and eating after consuming the fibre
product first.

Blood glucose levels were measured at regular intervals at 15, 30,
45, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after meals with the same nutritional intake
in each condition. Based on the results, the company stated that
consuming the fibre product before meals was associated with a reduction
in postprandial blood sugar spikes compared with the condition without
the product. The company says the reduction in blood sugar spikes was
evident from the early measurement phase and continued for the two-hour
post-meal period. Overall, the results showed that the two-hour
postprandial blood sugar rise was lower than in the condition without
the product.

mGanik Nutrition states that the clinical trial has been validated by
an accredited university in Indonesia. According to Dr. Kelvin, a
data-driven approach and scientific proof are important to ensure that
health interventions truly benefit people with diabetes.

Postprandial blood sugar spikes are one of the aspects to monitor in
managing Type 2 diabetes. Controlling blood sugar is considered helpful
in keeping the metabolic condition of people with diabetes stable. In
addition to diet and physical activity, fibre intake is often
recommended to help slow the absorption of glucose in the body.

Against the backdrop of rising diabetes prevalence in Indonesia,
various nutrition-based approaches and health interventions are being
developed. However, these approaches are considered to need scientific
validation so that their effectiveness can be measured objectively.
(I-1)
",
