        "content": "<p>DHL Indonesia to launch 'Europe First' campaign<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Courier company DHL Worldwide Express plans to<br>\nlaunch a massive promotional drive this month for its European<br>\nservice \"Europe First\", to follow up on the success of its \"USA<br>\nFirst\" campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Technical Advisor Mike Fitzpatrick said on Tuesday the<br>\nAmerican campaign, launched this time last year at the height of<br>\nIndonesia's political turmoil, bolstered DHL's business volume to<br>\nthe United States by as much as 130 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The new campaign is aimed at companies which export to Europe,<br>\na market with great potential, Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n<p>DHL has been expanding its operations over the past year, in<br>\nspite of the economic and political crises, as it took a long-<br>\nterm view of business prospects in Indonesia, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The company has opened a new facility in Bandung and bought a<br>\nhuge warehouse in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>\"We remain optimistic,\" he said, when asked about the timing<br>\nof the launch, which coincides with the start of the national<br>\nelection campaign, a potentially explosive period.<\/p>\n<p>He said that year-on-year, DHL's business volume had increased<br>\nby 4.4 percent.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the financial crisis, DHL had seen a slight<br>\ndrop in orders from the banking sector and for delivery of<br>\nletters of credits last year, Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n<p>DHL stayed open for business during the turmoil last May, a<br>\ndecision widely appreciated by customers.<\/p>\n<p>\"We put up our people in a hotel so that they could turn up<br>\nfor work,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Country marketing manager Soraya Rudianti said following the<br>\nUSA First campaign, DHL received plenty of new business from<br>\nIndonesian companies which export to the United States. They send<br>\nsamples as well as products and documents.<\/p>\n<p>The USA campaign promised customers speedy and cost effective<br>\nservice, including a pledge that the package would be delivered<br>\nwithin 24 hours. The Europe First campaign would use the same<br>\ntheme, Soraya said.<\/p>\n<p>Asia remains the largest destination for DHL customers in<br>\nIndonesia, accounting for 45 percent of the business, followed by<br>\nthe United States at 25 percent and Europe at 20 percent, Soraya<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick said independent auditors estimated DHL's share of<br>\nthe Indonesian market at between 45 and 48 percent. Its major<br>\ncompetitors in Indonesia are TNT, Fedex and UPS.<\/p>\n<p>DHL has operated in Indonesia for 20 years in partnership with<br>\nPT Birotika Semesta.
