Dharmawangsa presents Bel Canto Vocal Music<\/p>\n
Bel Canto (beautiful song) is an Italian term that describes a
\nsinging style popularized across 18th century Europe when great
\nvalue was placed upon the dynamic beauty of the human voice.<\/p>\n
The Dhamarwangsa will host a series of Vocal Music Concerts
\ndedicated to 500 years of music.<\/p>\n
This social calendar is held through May 2000. The
\nDharmawangsa Ballroom becomes a concert hall, with theater-style
\nseating for limited guests. The performances begin at 7 p.m.,
\nincluding a preperformance cocktail buffet in the foyer.<\/p>\n
The first show is Romantic Evening of German Art Songs
\n(Liederabend), presented by the Batavia Madrigal Singers, who
\nmade their debut in February 1997. The choral works will be
\nconducted by Music Director Avip Priatna and will also feature
\nBinu D. Sukaman, Aning K. Asmoro, Joseph Kristanto and guest
\nsoloist Marijke ten Kate. The repertoire will include collections
\nof Schubert, Schumann and Brahms.<\/p>\n
Each performance will be presented in two parts, with a 30-
\nminute intermission featuring an array of delectable desserts,
\ncoffee and tea.<\/p>\n
